Traditional West African tie-on waistbeads intended for long term wear.
Sojourner Truth was a formerly enslaved woman whose deep spiritual connection to spirit, which she said called her to preach, led her to being one of the most well known names in the fight for abolition today. Truth never learned to read or write, and despite that William Lloyd Garrison and Frederick Douglass called her to deliver speeches dedicated to exposing the evils of chattel slavery. Later in her life her work continued to build new lives for freed Black people. A woman of strength, confidence and spirit, we hope these waistbeads honored in her name inspire you to be the same!
